Well, first you want to find out what the make and model of your wireless card is. The 1012 should have the BCM4312 wireless device, but we should verify this before going any further. Try typing the following into a terminal session:
lspci -vvnn | grep 14e4
lshw -C network
The above should give us more information about your card.
If your system is using a BCM4312, then you can try to follow these links to get it up and working:
Device firmware installation
The Broadcom wireless chip needs proprietary software (called “firmware”) that runs on the wireless chip itself to work properly. This firmware is copyrighted by Broadcom and must be extracted from Broadcom’s proprietary drivers. To get such firmware on your system, you must download the driver from a legal distribution point, extract it, and install it. This is accomplished different ways by different Linux distributions, so please read the section for yours for the best results. You will need an alternate working internet connection (by Ethernet cable, for example) since the firmware cannot be included with the distro itself.
In recent versions of Ubuntu and Debian, installing the firmware-b43-installer package will handle everything for you. In the following command there is an extra ‘lpphy’ block because the dell 1012 is a lowpower wireless card. On other machines dropping the ‘lpphy’ is regular.
sudo apt-get install firmware-b43-lpphy-installer
sudo apt-get install firmware-b43-installer
You will be asked to automatically fetch and install the firmware into the right location. Again, you will need an internet connection. Pay atttention to the last line after entering the instructions, it will tell you the proper driver package to enter after ‘sudo apt-get install’. You will use this command a shit ton with Debian-based Linux so learn it. And don’t lose this file, you will need it a lot. RESTART
Excerpts From Oral Testimony Before Committee
“Savia Fruhletts from Columbia was the art director we contracted for the project. It was under her advisement that we went ahead with the information campaign currently under review by this body, and I wish it understood for the record that we have full confidence in her decisions. Her work there raising awareness during the initial discovery was certainly a factor in our hire. The public awareness adverts were highly stylized with a minimum number of colors so that the aesthetic could be easily imitated by manual methods. Again for the record I think propaganda realism to be a little gauche and I’m glad we agree on this. It was thought best to partner with existing brands.”
“Well apparently homo sanguini have accelerated image processing and retinal structure that enables additional wavelength at either end of the visual spectrum into both infrared and ultraviolet. This comes at a bit of flattening out in the middle. Ms. Fruhletts recommended we print and televise in a few color tones in green and yellow that they couldn’t differentiate. This functioned – as you know – quite well. We now know homo sanguinis to have a form of color blindness.”
“The posters and adverts began displaying function in that they forced someone else to reveal the message to our targets. We immediately realized the potential of the format as an on-spot detector for the sanguinis strain. It was a week later that we were contacted by Chairman Oboe for this inquiry.”
“Can your boyfriend/girlfriend read this?”, “Can your “friends” read this?”, followed by a humorous epigram. We were appreciative of law enforcement and Domestic Security and Intelligence adaptability on the matter.”
“Yes ma’am I guess that is why halftone is popular again and I’d be happy to discuss that.”
digital greyscale often has numerical inconsistencies when value inverted – false color originates from what is in theory a simple negative
